Welcome to Lillian Private Academy for Women.
"Founded in Meiji 34, this academy was originally intended for the young women of nobility, and is now a Catholic academy of prestigious tradition. Placed in downtown Tokyo, where you can still see traces of Musashi Field's greenery, it is protected by God, a garden where maidens can receive tutelage from pre-school to university."
Most attendees of the prestigious school either attend due to familial wealth - it is not uncommon to find daughters of businessmen, politicians, doctors, well-known lawyers, and the like in the school - but others have been known to attend via connections or scholarships. All women, and women-identifying individuals are accepted, with the right credentials, to this high-end school, at any age between elementary and college, though the far most interesting interactions come in the Lillian Academy high school.
In the High School system, there exists something called the Soeur System. When a student in her second or third year finds an underclassmate to whom she feels a strong bond, she offers her school-given rosary in a ceremony as sacred as marriage. This establishes and shows a bond between the two girls that lasts through their school years and beyond. The upperclassman is called the Grande Soeur, and it is customary for the underclassmen to refer to her as onee-sama or 'older sister'. Conversely, the underclassman is called the Petite Soeur and is typically guided and doted upon by the upperclassman. In turn, the underclassman provides a relief and emotional base of stability for her onee-sama. In this way, the girls of Lillian Academy form a complete and complex support system for each other, isolated within the grounds of the school.
The student council positions are also somewhat unique. Called the Yamayurikai or "Mountain Lily Council", the student council of Lillian Academy is made of three different rose 'families' led by an upperclassman of a name relating to the rose family: Rosa Chinensis, name of the family and leader of red roses, Rosa Gigantea, the family and leader of white roses, and Rosa Foetida name of the family and leader of yellow roses. The Petite Soeurs of the Roses are also, by default, part of the Yamayurikai, and assist their onee-samas with the duties of the council. There are no specific roles, such as 'president' or 'treasurer' among the Yamayurikai, rather, all roles are filled as needed by anyone available, though the generally more complex and leadership roles, of course, go to the Roses. Calling the heads of each respective rose family by their titles (Rosa Chinensis, Rosa Gigantea, and Rosa Foetida) is considered yet more polite and appropriate than speaking to them even by their surnames with a title, though it may be simply shortened to 'the Roses' when speaking about them as a group. As well, their Petite Soeurs are typically called by their formal title - Rosa [Chinensis, Gigantea, Foetida] en Bouton - meaning "Rosa (Chinensis, Gigantea, Foetida) in bloom", owing that, though the Roses' positions are decided by election every year, the Roses' Petite Soeurs are typically elected to the spot of Rose after their Onee-samas graduate. And so, they are roses in bloom, waiting to blossom to their full potential.
Within the Garden of Maidens, cell phones are a rather rarely used amenity, as face-to-face conversation is typically preferred. The Yamayurikai and the various clubs provide for, and organize, many different events throughout the year, and the Soeur system, the love of gossip, and the very opportunistic journalism clubs never fail to provide opportunities for day-to-day activities. No one is supernatural; there doesn't exist such a thing as magical powers or true extra-sensory perception. Everyone is but a young human woman, finding her place in the world, and the friends to support her into her future.
Walking slowly is preferred here. Shattering the peace quickly becomes a spectacle, and no one should want to be at the center of that attention. Greeting Maria-sama's statue at the fork in the path is all but mandatory. These are the precedents of Lillian Girls' Academy. Some rail against it, but even still, no one can really deny that Maria-sama's presence is unavoidable.
